From the Principal!

Howdy Fabra Families!

Somehow, we are already in October, and next week marks the final week of our first nine-week grading period! While fall break begins at the end of next week, it is important that our Falcons are here and ready to learn each day as we finish the first nine weeks strong.
Today is National Custodian Day, and we truly cannot say enough about our incredible custodial crew here at Fabra! They are some of the first to arrive and some of the last to leave each day, working behind the scenes to make sure our campus is clean, safe, and ready for learning. Thank you for all you do for our Fabra Family!
We also want to wish our Fabra Dance Foundations group the best of luck as they perform tomorrow at the Boerne Book Festival at the amphitheater behind the public library at 2:00pm. We encourage you to swing by and enjoy the show!
Next Thursday is our first Student Council Spirit Day of the year, and it is my personal favorite — Student/Teacher Swap Day! Students get to dress like their teachers, and teachers get to dress like their students. Join in on the fun!
A big thank you to Black Rifle Coffee for stopping by this week with a check for more than $550 from their “Round Up” event to support Falcon Funds. We are so grateful for the incredible support our community continues to show our students and campus!
Have a wonderful weekend, and as always, be sure to check out the rest of this week’s newsletter for more Fabra news and upcoming events!

Help Us Reach Our Falcon Funds Goal!

Thank you to the families who have already supported Falcon Funds! We have received $6,700.00 toward our goal, and we truly appreciate your generosity.
Falcon Funds allows us to  support meaningful experiences and incentives for our students, including field trips, academic supports, student and teacher incentives, character celebrations, STAAR snacks, and more. Most importantly, 100% of your donation goes directly to Fabra Elementary to support our students and staff.
If you haven’t had a chance to contribute, we would greatly appreciate your support. Donations can be sent to school in your child’s green folder, or you can donate online using the link provided below.
Every contribution, big or small, helps us reach our goal and provide even more opportunities for our Falcons. Thank you for continuing to support Fabra!

Calling All Falcon Fathers!

Spend the day at Fabra!
Falcon fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures....Would you like to volunteer for at least one day each year? During the day, Falcon Fathers may read to a classroom, play at recess, help out in P.E, eat lunch with students and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. On the day of their participation, Falcon Fathers are given a brief review of their involvement and get to wear an official Falcon Father t-shirt.

Please limit your initial sign-up to only ONE date, and additionally sign-up for the "Waitlist" slot if you would like to be notified of last minute openings that would allow you to participate again.

All Falcon Fathers will need to complete a full background check with the district prior to volunteering. Here is the link below:

From the Library

CAUGHT READING!
Throughout the school year, teachers and I will be “catching kids reading”—and that’s a great thing! When a student is caught reading, they’ll receive a special ticket. They’ll write their first and last name, along with their grade level, on the ticket and drop it into the jar at the library checkout desk.
Every Tuesday, I’ll draw one ticket during the morning announcements. The lucky reader will win some fun library swag!
This week's winner is Landon Bastian in 5th grade!

LIBRARY BOOKS

LIBRARY LESSONS FOR NEXT WEEK
Next week, we will continue our read-alouds with the lower grades, and I am so excited! I love reading to our students because read-alouds foster a lifelong love of reading and show students that books can be fun, engaging, and exciting.
As we read, I focus on reading comprehension. We will pause throughout each story for check-ins and discussions. Students will have opportunities to recall important details, identify characters and setting, make predictions, discuss events, and share their thinking about the story. These conversations will help me see how well students understand and engage with what they are hearing.
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will continue to learn how to use the online library catalog to search for books and locate them in the library using their call numbers. Students will use the online catalog and practice searching by title, author, or subject.  They will discover how to find the call numbers for the books they want to check out.
Each week, we will build upon this knowledge through discussions, hands-on activities, and practice opportunities. Our goal is for students to become confident, independent library users who can search for and locate books on their own.
LIBRARY BOOKS
  • Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Students may check out 1 book each week.
  • 2nd–5th Grade: Students may check out 2 books each week.

  • If your child does not bring their books back on their library day, they will not be able to check out that week.
Please make sure their library book is in their backpack on their library day.  Here is the schedule with the homeroom teacher's name:

This is an image of the Library Schedule. Monday: Wright, Alderete, Rickman, Polasek, Montero, Tijarina, Hobby. Tuesday-Alvarez, J. Leal, Bennett, Godinez, Garza, M. Leal, Owens. Our Fabra PTO is always looking for ways to improve how we connect with and serve our Fabra families. To that end, we’ve partnered with a new technology partner called Growing Grounds for our website!
Our goal is to provide a smoother, easier experience for everything you do with us — shopping Fabra spiritwear, registering for events, and making donations — whether you’re on your phone or your computer.
Sign up today! Registration is free, and you’ll need an account to access school events, so don’t wait. Creating an account is the best way to stay up to date on all PTO activities and happenings throughout the year.
Check back often — they'll be rolling out new features all year to help parents, teachers, PTO board members, and administrators collaborate better in support of our students.
