Howdy Fabra Families!
Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend parent conferences this week. We hope these conversations were beneficial in helping you better understand the areas in which your kiddos are working, the progress they have made, and how we can continue to partner together to support their growth.
This week, Fabra had the opportunity to host the Boerne Chamber of Commerce’s Taste of Boerne – BIESTA mixer. We were especially proud of our Grupo Los Halconitos, who were the first performance of the evening and did a fantastic job showcasing just some of the incredible talent we have across our district.
This week also kicked off two exciting Fabra traditions! Our Fabra Dance Team officially got underway, and the Green Machine Run Club had its first run of the year. We are excited to see our Falcons getting involved, building new skills, and having fun along the way!
Today, we were excited to celebrate our 3rd graders with a half-hour of extra recess for having the highest attendance percentage during our second three-week attendance period. Congratulations, 3rd grade!
A special thank you to everyone who wore teal or blue today in support of Allergy Awareness Day. We appreciate our Fabra families helping us raise awareness and support a safe and inclusive environment for all of our students.
There are just two weeks left in our first nine-week grading period, so we appreciate your continued partnership in helping your child be here each day, stay focused, and finish the first grading period strong.
Have a wonderful weekend, Fabra Family, and be sure to check out the rest of the newsletter for other important dates, updates, and upcoming events!

At the same time, health comes first. Please keep students home when they are truly sick and allow them time to recover. Why This Homework Matters
As your School Resource Officer, one of my most important responsibilities is helping keep our students safe. Students will be coming home with some basic homework. This homework is designed to help students practice basic safety skills and learn important personal information they may need during an emergency or if they ever become lost or separated from their family.
Students should know important information such as their home address, a parent or guardian’s name and phone number, and who they can go to for help. They should also know how to recognize unsafe situations and when to seek help from a trusted adult, school staff member, or SRO.
Please have your student work on this information at home and try to return the homework sometime during the week. The SRO will stop by during the week to check on each student’s progress. Once a student can confidently provide their important safety information from memory, they will receive a small reward for completing the challenge.
The goal is not simply to finish an assignment. It is to help students build confidence, remember important information, and know what to do and who to contact if they ever need help.

Thank you to the families who have already supported Falcon Funds! We have received $6,100.00 toward our goal, and we truly appreciate your generosity.
Falcon Funds allows us to support meaningful experiences and incentives for our students, including field trips, academic supports, student and teacher incentives, character celebrations, STAAR snacks, and more. Most importantly, 100% of your donation goes directly to Fabra Elementary to support our students and staff.
If you haven’t had a chance to contribute, we would greatly appreciate your support. Donations can be sent to school in your child’s green folder, or you can donate online using the link provided below.
Every contribution, big or small, helps us reach our goal and provide even more opportunities for our Falcons. Thank you for continuing to support Fabra!

Spend the day at Fabra!
Falcon fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures....Would you like to volunteer for at least one day each year? During the day, Falcon Fathers may read to a classroom, play at recess, help out in P.E, eat lunch with students and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. On the day of their participation, Falcon Fathers are given a brief review of their involvement and get to wear an official Falcon Father t-shirt.
Please limit your initial sign-up to only ONE date, and additionally sign-up for the "Waitlist" slot if you would like to be notified of last minute openings that would allow you to participate again.
All Falcon Fathers will need to complete a full background check with the district prior to volunteering. Here is the link below:

CAUGHT READING!
Throughout the school year, teachers and I will be “catching kids reading”—and that’s a great thing! When a student is caught reading, they’ll receive a special ticket. They’ll write their first and last name, along with their grade level, on the ticket and drop it into the jar at the library checkout desk.
Every Tuesday, I’ll draw one ticket during the morning announcements. The lucky reader will win some fun library swag!
This week's winner is Hagen Smith in 1st grade!

LIBRARY LESSONS FOR NEXT WEEK
Next week, we will continue our read-alouds with the lower grades, and I am so excited! I love reading to our students because read-alouds foster a lifelong love of reading and show students that books can be fun, engaging, and exciting.
As we read, I focus on reading comprehension. We will pause throughout each story for check-ins and discussions. Students will have opportunities to recall important details, identify characters and setting, make predictions, discuss events, and share their thinking about the story. These conversations will help me see how well students understand and engage with what they are hearing.
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will continue to learn how to use the online library catalog to search for books and locate them in the library using their call numbers. Students will use the online catalog and practice searching by title, author, or subject. They will discover how to find the call numbers for the books they want to check out.
Each week, we will build upon this knowledge through discussions, hands-on activities, and practice opportunities. Our goal is for students to become confident, independent library users who can search for and locate books on their own.
LIBRARY BOOKS
-
Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Students may check out 1 book each week.
-
2nd–5th Grade: Students may check out 2 books each week.
- If your child does not bring their books back on their library day, they will not be able to check out that week.
Please make sure their library book is in their backpack on their library day. Here is the schedule with the homeroom teacher's name:

Our Fabra PTO is always looking for ways to improve how we connect with and serve our Fabra families. To that end, we’ve partnered with a new technology partner called Growing Grounds for our website!
Our goal is to provide a smoother, easier experience for everything you do with us — shopping Fabra spiritwear, registering for events, and making donations — whether you’re on your phone or your computer.
Sign up today! Registration is free, and you’ll need an account to access school events, so don’t wait. Creating an account is the best way to stay up to date on all PTO activities and happenings throughout the year.
Check back often — they'll be rolling out new features all year to help parents, teachers, PTO board members, and administrators collaborate better in support of our students.
