Howdy Fabra Families,
This week’s newsletter is coming to you a day early since there is no school for students tomorrow. Tomorrow is Elementary Parent Conference Day across the district, and we hope you have been able to sign up for a conference with your child’s teacher. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with you and talk about your child’s progress and growth.
We had another incredible week of attendance at Fabra, finishing the week at 97.5%! Even more exciting, every grade level from 1st–5th grade finished at 96.5% or higher. Thank you for helping make regular attendance a priority and ensuring your child is here and ready to learn each day!
Tonight is our first Fabra Family Night of the year! Family Fitness Night begins at 5:30 p.m., and we hope you can join us. Put on your athletic clothes, bring the family, and come enjoy some fun games and activities while checking out our newly renovated track. We look forward to seeing you there!
We are also excited to cheer on one of our own tomorrow night at the BHS football game. Our very own Matthew Mendez will be recognized at the coin flip as the Player of the Game. Matthew is an incredible student, a great friend, and a wonderful representation of Fabra. Way to go, Matthew! We are excited to cheer you on!
It was also so great to welcome our grandparents to campus on Monday. Thank you to all of our families who helped spread the word and to our wonderful PTO for hosting such a well-attended event. It was a special evening, and we loved seeing so many Fabra grandparents on campus!
Today also marks the end of our second three-week grading period. Progress reports will be available next week through Skyward and will also be sent home in green folders for our kindergarten and first-grade students. Be on the lookout!
We hope all of our students have a wonderful three-day weekend and that our parents enjoy their time during conferences tomorrow. Thank you for another great week at Fabra!

September is Attendance Awareness Month! Regular, on-time attendance is essential to student success and helps ensure our Falcons don’t miss valuable learning opportunities. At the same time, health comes first. Please keep students home when they are truly sick and allow them time to recover. By working together to prioritize both good attendance and the health of our school community, we can help every Falcon make the most of every school day!
Our campus goal for Average Daily Attendance is 96.5%. This week's campus attendance rate was: 97.50%. Our current attendance rate for the year is 96.88%.

Why This Homework Matters
As your School Resource Officer, one of my most important responsibilities is helping keep our students safe. Students will be coming home with some basic homework. This homework is designed to help students practice basic safety skills and learn important personal information they may need during an emergency or if they ever become lost or separated from their family.
Students should know important information such as their home address, a parent or guardian’s name and phone number, and who they can go to for help. They should also know how to recognize unsafe situations and when to seek help from a trusted adult, school staff member, or SRO.
Please have your student work on this information at home and try to return the homework sometime during the week. The SRO will stop by during the week to check on each student’s progress. Once a student can confidently provide their important safety information from memory, they will receive a small reward for completing the challenge.
The goal is not simply to finish an assignment. It is to help students build confidence, remember important information, and know what to do and who to contact if they ever need help.

Spend the day at Fabra!
Falcon fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures....Would you like to volunteer for at least one day each year? During the day, Falcon Fathers may read to a classroom, play at recess, help out in P.E, eat lunch with students and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. On the day of their participation, Falcon Fathers are given a brief review of their involvement and get to wear an official Falcon Father t-shirt.
Please limit your initial sign-up to only ONE date, and additionally sign-up for the "Waitlist" slot if you would like to be notified of last minute openings that would allow you to participate again.
All Falcon Fathers will need to complete a full background check with the district prior to volunteering. Here is the link below:

CAUGHT READING!
Throughout the school year, teachers and I will be “catching kids reading”—and that’s a great thing! When a student is caught reading, they’ll receive a special ticket. They’ll write their first and last name, along with their grade level, on the ticket and drop it into the jar at the library checkout desk.
Every Tuesday, I’ll draw one ticket during the morning announcements. The lucky reader will win some fun library swag!

LIBRARY LESSONS FOR NEXT WEEK
Next week, we will continue our read-alouds with the lower grades, and I am so excited! I love reading to our students because read-alouds foster a lifelong love of reading and show students that books can be fun, engaging, and exciting.
As we read, I focus on reading comprehension. We will pause throughout each story for check-ins and discussions. Students will have opportunities to recall important details, identify characters and setting, make predictions, discuss events, and share their thinking about the story. These conversations will help me see how well students understand and engage with what they are hearing.
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will continue to learn how to use the online library catalog to search for books and locate them in the library using their call numbers. Students will use the online catalog and practice searching by title, author, or subject. They will discover how to find the call numbers for the books they want to check out.
Each week, we will build upon this knowledge through discussions, hands-on activities, and practice opportunities. Our goal is for students to become confident, independent library users who can search for and locate books on their own.
