Happy September, Fabra Family!
It’s hard to believe we are already in September, and we are heading into our first holiday weekend of the school year! There will be no school on Monday for students or staff in observance of Labor Day. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and gets some well-deserved time with family and friends.
September is also Attendance Awareness Month, so we will continue to emphasize the importance of regular and timely attendance. Being at school every day and arriving on time makes a tremendous difference in our students’ success. Of course, health always comes first, and if your child is sick, please make sure they have the opportunity to see a doctor or nurse and get well. At the same time, we encourage families to prioritize vacations and extended trips during the district’s already established holidays and breaks whenever possible.
Next Wednesday is our Fall Picture Day! Information about ordering pictures can be found in this week’s newsletter. All students will have their picture taken, so be sure to send them to school in their Sunday best!
Next Friday will also be our first All Pro Dad meeting of the year! We are excited to get these monthly gatherings started. Be on the lookout for the pre-check link that will be sent out next week.

September is Attendance Awareness Month! Regular, on-time attendance is essential to student success and helps ensure our Falcons don’t miss valuable learning opportunities. At the same time, health comes first. Please keep students home when they are truly sick and allow them time to recover. By working together to prioritize both good attendance and the health of our school community, we can help every Falcon make the most of every school day!
Our campus goal for Average Daily Attendance is 96.5%. This week's campus attendance rate was: 96.59%. Our current attendance rate for the year is 96.70%.

Run Club is for 2nd -5th graders that love to run!
Run club will meet every Thursday after school until 3:45 starting Thursday Sept. 24th. Students will meet in the gym at dismissal. All run club members need to wear running shoes and bring a bottle of water. Please pick up your child in front of the school at 3:45.
Green Machine members are encouraged to enter the YMCA Turkey Trot 5K on Nov.21st. More information will be sent out at a later date.
We will take a break from Thanksgiving - Spring Break and start back up in the spring!

Spend the day at Fabra!
Falcon fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures....Would you like to volunteer for at least one day each year? During the day, Falcon Fathers may read to a classroom, play at recess, help out in P.E, eat lunch with students and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. On the day of their participation, Falcon Fathers are given a brief review of their involvement and get to wear an official Falcon Father t-shirt.
Please limit your initial sign-up to only ONE date, and additionally sign-up for the "Waitlist" slot if you would like to be notified of last minute openings that would allow you to participate again.
All Falcon Fathers will need to complete a full background check with the district prior to volunteering. Here is the link below:

CAUGHT READING!
Throughout the school year, teachers and I will be “catching kids reading”—and that’s a great thing! When a student is caught reading, they’ll receive a special ticket. They’ll write their first and last name, along with their grade level, on the ticket and drop it into the jar at the library checkout desk.
Every Tuesday, I’ll draw one ticket during the morning announcements. The lucky reader will win some fun library swag!

LIBRARY LESSONS FOR NEXT WEEK
Next week, we will begin our read-alouds with the lower grades, and I am so excited! I love reading to our students because read-alouds help foster a lifelong love of reading while showing students that books can be fun, engaging, and exciting.
As we read, I will focus on reading comprehension. We will pause throughout each story for check-ins and discussions. Students will have opportunities to recall important details, identify characters and setting, make predictions, discuss events, and share their thinking about the story. These conversations will help me see how well students are understanding and engaging with what they are hearing.
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will begin learning how to use the online library catalog to search for books and locate them in the library using their call numbers. Students will read a short story about two students who use the online catalog and call numbers to find books they want to check out. We will then discuss the passage and review the skills introduced in the story.
Each week, we will build upon this knowledge through discussions, hands-on activities, and practice opportunities. Our goal is for students to become confident, independent library users who can search for and locate books on their own.

- If your child does not bring their books back on their library day, they will not be able to check out that week.
Please make sure their library book is in their backpack on their library day. Here is the schedule with the homeroom teacher's name:
IF A BOOK IS LOST, YOU HAVE SOME OPTIONS:
- You can pay the replacement cost. I will send home an overdue notice with the amount on it.
- We take cash- try to have the exact amount as I don't often have change.
- We take checks made out to Fabra Elementary.
- You can also pay using a credit card on RevTrak,
- You can purchase a replacement that is used as long as it is a HARDCOVER and in good or better shape.
